• Below the fold still indexed. The remaining 12 in your description are crawled by YouTube's search engine; they just don't display in the player UI.
• Hashtags > the "Tags" field. YouTube has publicly said the Tags field carries minimal ranking weight in 2026. Hashtags are the higher-leverage of the two.
• 60-tag total auto-strip. Description hashtags + Tags field combined cannot exceed 60. Stay under 15 in the description and you're clear.
• Shorts require #shorts. Without it, the upload doesn't enter the Shorts shelf. The AI prepends it automatically when you pick the Shorts format.

Working the generator

1. Type the video topic. Be specific. "python decorators tutorial" pulls a different set than "python." The first three hashtags get pinned above the video title - they need to read as the topic itself, not generic platform-tags.
2. Pick the format. Tutorials win on topic-keyword tags YouTube's search engine indexes. Reviews win on product-name tags. Shorts have a different ranking signal entirely - the Shorts shelf reads them more like TikTok than long-form.
3. Sign in once. YouTube's tag analytics aren't in any public API, so any tool that produces credible YouTube tag sets becomes a data source by accident. Sign-in is the bouncer that keeps that side door from being the main entrance.
4. Use the first 3, drop the rest in description. YouTube only displays 3 hashtags above the title (the first 3 in your description). The other 12 still get indexed for search but stay below the fold. Treat the first 3 as your "billboard" tags and the rest as SEO depth.
